Collaborations

Right from inception, MAVA has been collaborating and partnering with several individuals and likeminded organizations working on gender equality.

Referrals, through women’s groups in the city like Sakhya, Special Cell for Women, SNEHA and YWCA, for counseling men in cases of marital conflict are done periodically.

For the up-scaling of ‘Yuva Maitri’ initiative to 5 other districts of Maharashtra state, several grassroots organizations, Universities have collaborated with MAVA’s team to reach out to thousands of young men.

  • Shramik Janata Vikas Sanstha, Satara district.
  • D. K. Shinde School of Social Work, Chhatrapati Shahu Institute of Business Education and Research (CSIBER), Kolhapur district
  • Yuva Rural, Nagpur for creating a pool of communicators in Buldana, Bhandara and Nagpur districts.
  • Breakthrough TV, Delhi for running mass campaign ‘Bell Bajao’ on ‘Stopping Domestic Violence’ in Aurangabad, Nashik and Mumbai
  • The National Service Scheme (NSS) Department and Women Development Cell (WDC) of University of Mumbai
Students pursuing graduation and post-graduation in Social Work from institutes across Maharashtra and also from abroad have been involved at MAVA for learning and exposure. These are students from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, College of Social Work – Nirmala Niketan, Karve Institute of Social Service. Apart from students from other parts of India, there have been a significant number of students and professionals from Germany, US, Australia, Iran, Finland and Sweden visiting MAVA to understand gender perspective and gain insights on working with boys and Men.

In March 2011, MAVA members Harish Sadani and Ravindra R.P. took initiative in bringing together over 15 voluntary organizations and individuals in Mumbai and established Forum Against Sex Selection (FASS). The Forum has been addressing issues of sex-selective abortions and gender discrimination through awareness campaigns, e-group and periodic interactive sessions for various groups.

In the recent past, several Gender-Related Workshops, Meets and Seminars have been organized by MAVA with support and collaboration of Maharashtra State Social Welfare Board, Women and Child Development Department and National Commission for Women, Delhi.

New Collaborations & Partnerships

MAVA would be starting in July 2014 a major initiative among adolescent boys in 3 disadvantaged communities of Mumbai. This initiative will be through partnering by 3 reputed voluntary organizations. These will be: Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan (BMMA), Prerana and YWCA.
